About This Trip
This exciting 12-day itinerary will take you to Thailand's and Laos's most remarkable attractions. Accompanied by a local guide and driver throughout the journey, your tour will begin in Bangkok, where you will visit the famous Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. Explore the old city of Chiang Mai, spend a day with elephants, and then travel to Chiang Rai for a glimpse of the golden triangle. Take a cruise down the Mekong River from Chiang Khong to Laos. Then, you will tour Luang Prabang and Vientiane to gain an intimate understanding of the country's diverse culture.

Day 1: Arrival, Bangkok
Say hello to Thailand! On arrival, your guide will greet you at the airport and escort you to the hotel. The rest of the day is for you to have a good rest.

Day 2: Bangkok
Today, visit Wat Traimit which is famous for its enormous 5.5-ton statue from the distant past, followed by the majestic Wat Arun, which has a pagoda of 76 meters high. Later on, proceed to Wat Po to see a giant lying Buddha covered in gold leaf. You will then tour the famous Grand Palace, the perfect example of an ancient Siamese court. Within the compound is Wat Phra Kaew with its brightly colored buildings, golden spires and gorgeous mosaics.

Day 3: Bangkok
After breakfast, go to the Train Market where local people sell massive fresh seafood and clothing. Later on, get to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market with its many colors, flavors and exotic fragrances of delicious food. Return to Bangkok and tour the Jim Thompson House, a stunning teak residence that was the home of a charismatic American silk merchant. It includes several traditional teak buildings set amid a leafy compound right in the city.

Day 4: Bangkok - Chiang Mai
Fly to Chiang Mai in the morning. Upon arrival, your guide will pick you up and accompany you to the hotel. After freshening up, visit Meo Hill Tribe Village to observe their simple way of life. Continue to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep near the summit of Mount Doi Suthep. The final climb to the site is via a magnificent staircase of 306 steps. From there, you can watch the beautiful sunset and overlook the city.

Day 5: Chiang Mai
Today, spend the day caring for elephants in Baan Chang Elephant Park. At 8:30 to 9:00, leave by shuttle bus for the 50-minute drive to this elephant refuge for an Elephant's Day Care experience. Touch, play with and bathe the well-cared-for animals and even prepare their lunch and serve it to them! After your own lunch, visit the baby elephants in their special nursery area, before returning to Chiang Mai.

Day 6: Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai
In the morning, head to Chiang Rai and make a stopover at a hot spring. Have a rest at the Golden Triangle in Chiang Sean. From there, you can see all three countries at the same time, and the big river Mekong that separates them. In the afternoon, go to Mae Sai Border. End the tour with a visit to Akha and Yao hill tribe villages, where the people continue to wear their fascinating traditional costumes and follow a very simple way of village life.

Day 7: Chiang Rai - Chiang Khong - Pakbeng
In the morning, get to the Laos border at Chiang Khong and then take a boat ride on Khong River to Houayxay checkpoint. Upon arrival, your guide will help you get a Laos visa and then you will take a boat ride cruising down the Mekong River to Pakbeng. On the way, have a glimpse of Ban Gon Durn to know their rural lifestyle. The boat will disembark at Luang Say Lodge before dawn. You'll enjoy your dinner at the terrace where you can overlook the Mekong River.

Day 8: Pakbeng - Luang Prabang
In the early morning, you can walk to Pakbeng Market to experience the daily lifestyle of colorful hill tribe traders exchanging their goods. A cruise upstream on the Mekong River will give you a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside. Make a stop at Ban Baw Village and observe how people traditionally make rice wine. You'll enjoy a buffet lunch on board. After that, the boat will turn to Nam Ou River for a gentle cruise through magnificent scenery towards the Pak Ou Caves that holds over 4,000 Buddha statues left by pilgrims over the course of time. You'll then reach Luang Prabang before sunset.

Day 9: Luang Prabang
Wake up before dawn to watch the alms giving procession that dates back generations in Laos. After that, visit the Morning Market or Phousi Market where you will see such diverse goods.
Later on, enjoy a historical tour including visit Wat Sene, Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Visoun, Wat Aham, Wat Mai and Royal Palace Museum which houses the precious exhibits that used to be possessions of the former Laos Royal family. End the day with a climb to the top of Mount Phou Si and a leisure walk at a night market.

Day 10: Luang Prabang - Vientiane
Today, get to the Kuang Si Waterfalls. The turquoise blue water contrasts beautifully with the lush green trees. It's a great spot for selfies or exotic tropical photos and an ideal place to free your body and mind in the cool ponds. Later, stop by a local village of Lao ethnic minority groups, Ban Ouay. Have lunch near the falls before flying to Vientiane.

Day 11: Vientiane
Today, enjoy a visit to all essential landmarks this small and charismatic city has to offer: Wat Si Saket, Wat Phra Keo, That Luang Stupa and the imposing Patuxay Monument known as Vientiane's own Arc de Triumph.
In the afternoon, explore Buddha Park, a fanciful sculpture garden full of Buddhist and religious images that appear to be centuries old.
