Classic Sri Lanka: Colombo, Sigiriya. Kandy, Galle

Itinerary

• Day 1: Arrival, Negombo

  When you arrive, your private chauffeur guide will meet and drive you to the hotel in Negombo (about 20 minutes' drive), and then you can spend the rest of the day at leisure.

• Day 2: Negombo - Sigiriya

  Today, get up early for your trip to the vibrant Negombo fish market, where you can see daily fish auctions, traditional fish cutting by local long knives and fish vendors, pretty kind of a cultural sight.

  After that, you’ll be setting out for Sigiriya by road. Upon arrival, check in your hotel and relax.

• Day 3: Sigiriya

  After breakfast, you are going to visit the Lion Rock, which was originally sculpted in the shape of a lion, where you can admire the relics of the ancient palace, and get a fantastic panoramic view of Dambulla from the top.

  In the afternoon, travel into the countryside with a jeep drive or a tuk tuk ride, experiencing the authentic local life and culture. Catch the beautiful sunset view by a sail around the intoxicating scene of the villagers.

• Day 4: Sigiriya - Kandy

  Today's trip begins with the renowned Dambulla Cave Temple, the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. And then you're going to drive to Kandy, Ceylon's old capital. Stop at a spice garden on the way and receive a 15-minute complimentary Ayuryeda Massage there if you like.

  When arriving in Kandy (about 3.5 hours' drive), watch the traditional Cultural Dance (Kandyan Dance) before entering the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic to admire the wonderful and spiritual place that houses the tooth relic of the Buddha.

• Day 5: Kandy

  Today, your chauffeur guide will take you on a visit to the Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya, which was once reserved exclusively for the royalty, but now opened to the commoners to enjoy the fine collection of orchids, a stately avenue of royal palms, and lots of other plants and flowers.

  You can have some rest in the hotel then or go out and find out some interesting places yourself, such as taking a stroll by the Kandy Lake and shopping for some souvenirs in the downtown markets.

• Day 6: Kandy

  In today's trip, you'll get to know a lot about the famous Ceylon tea with a visit to Geragama Tea Estate after a 20 minutes' drive. See how the tea leaves are being plucked and processed, and even practicing the complex steps during the production. And later, you'll enjoy sipping a cup of tea produced in the estate.

  Be transferred to Galle (about 6 hours' drive) after the visit.

• Day 7: Galle

  After breakfast, take a visit to the historical monument of Dutch Fort, a living heritage site that has withstood the damage from human and nature for more than 400 years. Walking in the fort, you can feel the old-world charm exuding from the small museums and spectacular Dutch churches. And then you will ramble around on the rampart walls, taking in the fresh air from the ocean.

• Day 8: Galle - Colombo

  Transfer to the capital of Sri Lanka, Colombo, by a train journey (about 3-4 hours) that travels along the coast line, during which you can see the charming landscapes of the sea and intoxicating places, and take pictures with the locals along the way.

  On arrival, you will be escorted to the hotel for check-in, and the rest of the day is yours to spend.

• Day 9: Colombo, Departure

  Take a trip around the Colombo's colonial legacies that show you the Independence Square, Gangarama Temple of Colombo, mile-long promenade of Galle Face Green and Colombo's National Museum, etc. Your will also stop at the former British Administrative Center and other sites to take memorial pictures.

  In the afternoon, your chauffeur guide will take you to the airport for your return flight.
